How to get a remote job in 2022?
COVID-19 has changed the way we live, work, and interact for the foreseeable future, forcing companies to embrace remote working as the new normal. Remote working isn’t rocket science, but it’s not all cut and dry either. Companies of all sizes must become accustomed to working as a distributed team and decide on the tools best suited for their workflows and processes.
Remote jobs have become popular with many workers. Remote work statistics tell us that across the world around 16% of companies are fully remotely. 77% of remote workers say they’re more productive when working from home and 85% of managers believe that having teams with remote workers will become the new norm.

Entry Level Remote Jobs
Not every digital nomad is a developer or a digital designer. Just because you don’t know how to code and never used Adobe, doesn’t mean you can’t get a remote job! Whether you are a graduate who just entered the job market, or someone who just decided to start working remotely, check these positions that require little or no experience and can be done from home:

Just because these jobs don’t often require any professional work experience, doesn’t mean anyone can do them. Having no work experience doesn’t equal having no skills! However, to get a remote job you might want to include information about your previous remote experience. If you’ve never officially worked remotely, have a think if you ever worked from home for a certain period of time (for example when ill or during lockdown). This would count as a remote work experience and you should be confident about including that in your CV. It’s important to show the employer that you are capable of working outside of the office!
Last, but not least, if you are applying for jobs abroad that you would like to do remote, make sure to add information on whether you do or do not require a visa to work there.

Remote jobs platforms and how to use them?
We said plenty of times that you can browse 100s of remote positions on our platform. However, we do realise that you might want to take a look at what competition is offering too. Despite that being heartbreaking, we will give you some tips for that anyway!
When choosing a platform you want to apply for jobs at, you have to have few things in mind. Firstly, have a look at the job offers filters they offer. When browsing for jobs, make sure to always filter them by “Remote” or “Work from home” depending on the platform. Sometimes you might need to skip adding location to avoid confusing the algorithm.
LinkedIn might have more job offers than other sites, however, the competition there is really high. If your LinkedIn profile is not updated, doesn’t have many connections and activities or you simply don’t have much work experience, it is possible that LinkedIn is not a platform for you. Try looking at Indeed, which posts so many job offers daily that the high competition is not so much of an issue anymore. For more creative jobs, try looking at The Dots. If you want to work in a startup in a less tech-related role and couldn’t find anything on PitchMe, you might want to check out Work In Startups. If you are based in the USA you should definitely check We Work Remotely, they offer positions all over the world but their selection for the USA really blew us away. Lastly, if you are driven by a desire to change the world and prefer to work with charities or NGOs, then Idealist may just be the right job marketplace for furthering your social impact career.
Remote communities on Facebook
While looking for a remote job on Facebook might be a good idea, we need to warn you that it not always is.
Facebook has 100s of groups related to remote work all over the world with 1000s of active members! They also recently published a tool that allows you to post and apply for jobs directly on Facebook. However, we do work with Facebook groups a lot to connect with communities interested in PitchMe and it is unfortunate that most of those groups do not offer real job positions.
If you want to look for jobs on Facebook, make sure you join smaller, organic and engaged groups, ideally specific for a region or a profession. They are more likely to post real jobs. Try researching digital nomad communities too! Be aware of SPAM bot accounts, do not apply for jobs that require a registration fee or any money upfront – they are not real!

These days a lot of companies decide to entirely work remotely. Perhaps there is a company you are already interested in that hires remote workers? It’s important to research what firms employ on a remote basis or if you know they work fully remote, check what positions they tend to hire.
Make sure to follow them on social media. It’s important for networking but also to stay on top of the news. Some companies post job adverts even on Instagram or Tiktok! If you decide to apply for job adverts posted on socials or interact with the company from your social media account, make sure it’s updated and optimised for job search. It might be better to get rid of silly party photos from your profile first before approaching your potential employer.

Talk to your boss
If you are currently employed in an office job, it is possible that you don’t need to look for a new remote job just yet! A recent analysis of London’s labour market data shows that a significant number of workers (41%) are able to do their work outside of the office. Add to this the fact that the World Economic Forum states that remote work (at least in hybrid form) is likely to stay for the long-term and there now becomes a reorganisation at the corporate level.
Before looking for a new job, think if your current job can be done remotely? To organise your remote work you might want to check out tools for remote workers first. If you think it’s doable, try talking to your boss about shifting your current position into remote mode. Offer a hybrid work schedule at first to see how it works. Try showing that other companies allow remote work for employees with a similar role to yours. Try explaining to your boss how it saves time and money on commuting and affects your work-life balance! Who knows, maybe your remote job is just a conversation away?!
