About the company

This week we are introducing Bullseye Motion! They help tech companies sell their product with explainer videos.
To find out more about the company culture and hiring processes, we spoke to Robbie King, the founder of Bullseye Motion. He explained to us that their mission is to make the best animated explainer videos on the internet.

“By best I mean videos that are the most memorable, shareable, and ultimately effective in terms of ROI. We put particular emphasis on crafting a good explainer video script. Our in-depth questionnaires inform every script we write and whenever it’s available, we base our scripts off the raw voice of customer research data like interviews and surveys”, he added.

Company culture

The general idea behind this startup is fairly straightforward, however, we wanted to know what’s special and unique about Bullseye Motion’s company culture. Robbie summed it up by saying “We’re fully remote and very informal. We do things on Slack or maybe a bit of email. As long as you’re communicative, the work’s good, and you can meet deadlines, then anyone who works for Bullseye Motion can do what they want.”

As many of the companies introduced in the #PitchmeEmployersIntro series, Bullseye Motion is also a big supporter of the Remote Revolution. “We’re 100% remote! So both myself and anyone we hire choose their environment. I personally love a good co-working space. Plenty of great ones in London where I currently live”, said Robbie.

Recruitment process

Knowing the company is fully remote, it was easy to guess that so are their recruitment processes. When asked about details of their hiring operations, Robbie states that it varies depending on the role. “If I’m interviewing a new motion designer then I’ll almost always ask them to complete a small (paid) piece of motion graphics work to see how they respond to deadlines and feedback. If I’m hiring for copywriting help then that’s a lot easier as I have a close network of talented, reliable writers than I can just email.”

However, what to do if you want to apply for a job at Bullseye Motion but you’re not in Robbie’s close network? “There’s no formal application process. And every job is different. However, we’re always interested in meeting new graphic design, motion design, and copywriting talents. So just shoot over an email”, he advised.

Hiring Trends 2022

We asked Robbie what, in his opinion, is the most important hiring trend this year. He shared the common opinion on remote working and hiring. “There are two trends actually that I think are pretty inescapable. Firstly the remote/hybrid work trend. This is just the start. And as businesses figure out how to best do it in a regular, post covid world we’ll see far more international hiring too.”

Secondly, I think AI will lead to some businesses hiring less. This will depend on the industry of course. But put it this way: I’ve heard of plenty of businesses avoiding hiring a junior blogger because they discovered a brilliant AI writing tool”, he revealed.

And what do you think are the most interesting or important hiring trends this year? Feel free to let us know in the comments!
